After repeated requests, we run beginners' signpainting courses at Lightspace co-working space on Authorpe road in Meanwood, Leeds. Each day-long course has a different focus and is suitable for beginners, dabblers and painters keen to share skills and progress. Sessions run from 10-4pm with all materials and tea and coffee provided. All materials are provided with worksheets to take away and a discount code for www.handover.co.uk.
January 12th- Focus On Casual Lettering. 'Casual' is the looser style that can be executed in single strokes and acts as a signpainter's signature style. The day will cover some basics of making enamel and 'Japan' paint behave, basic strokes, brush care, layout, use of a mahl stick and using templates to address the construction of letterforms.
January 26th- Painting House Numbers. Attendees will work towards painting a house number on a prepared marine-ply panel to take home. We will cover appropriate paint types, weatherproofing, drawing and transferring design from paper to panel and creating depth and shadow effects.
February 9th- Focus on Script Lettering. Much like the 'casual' course, we will explore the construction of brush script lettering, creating balanced forms, varying stroke widths and ligatures and addressing common mistakes in script letters.
All courses are limited to ten attendees, and places are secured with full payment of £50 via paypal to firstname.lastname@example.org. Please note your course choice on payment notes and you will be contacted soon after to confirm your place. Any questions to email@example.com or 07772547564.
